Control your Nuki Smart Lock directly from your car: the new Apple CarPlay widget

With iOS 26, Apple is introducing a brand-new feature for drivers: CarPlay Widgets.
Nuki supports this innovation right from the start, bringing smart access to your car. Through your car's infotainment system, you can control your Nuki Smart Lock directly - quickly, securely, and without detours.

The Nuki app already offers widgets for the iPhone home screen. These display the current locking status of the Smart Lock and allow you to perform lock or unlock actions without having to open the app. With the new Apple CarPlay integration, these functions are now available directly in your car as well.

More convenience in everyday life

Is the front door locked? Where’s the key for the garage door? And where’s the smartphone to open the door? The new Apple CarPlay widgets offer a simple solution for these common situations.

On your way home, you can check the current status of your Nuki Smart Lock, Smart Door, or Opener directly on your car’s infotainment display. This allows you to see whether the door is locked and - if you have a door sensor - whether it is open or closed. The widget also shows you the battery level of your device.

With just a single tap, you can lock or unlock the door without having to take your smartphone out of your pocket or search for it in the car. For example, you can open the garage door while driving home so that everything is ready when you arrive. This provides greater comfort and saves time, without having to interrupt your drive or allow yourself to become distracted.

Safety on the road

Safety plays a crucial role, especially when driving. Thanks to Apple CarPlay widgets, you can check the status and perform locking or unlocking actions directly through your infotainment system without having to touch your smartphone. Requirements for use:

• Latest iOS version (iOS 26)
• Latest Nuki app (version 2025.10.1)
• CarPlay-compatible car/infotainment system

Setting up Apple CarPlay widgets is straightforward and takes only a few minutes. Go to your iPhone settings under General > CarPlay, select the Nuki Widget, and configure it just like you would for home screen widgets on your iPhone. Once set up, you’ll have direct access to your Nuki Smart Lock right from your car at any time.

Finding the right Nuki widget

When adding the CarPlay widget, you might notice that there are two Nuki entries available. Please make sure to select the one that appears in the alphabetically sorted list of all apps. The entry listed under “Other” may lead to the widget not displaying correctly.

If the Nuki widget does not appear in the list of all apps, try the following steps:

1. Restart your iPhone
2. Open the “Add Widgets” screen on your iPhone (long-press on the home screen)
3. Afterwards, the correct Nuki CaPlay widget should also appear in the list
