Nuki uses state-of-the-art encryption mechanisms commonly used in online-banking. All communication with the Smart Lock is protected with end-to-end encryption. We also have our Smart Lock regularly inspected and certified by independent security institutes. The Nuki Smart Lock was once again certified by AV-TEST as a secure smart home product in 2024.

What if I don't have a smartphone?

Even if you don't have your phone with you, you can still open your door in many ways:
Asking someone with an access permission to open it for your remotely

Using a smartwach

Using one of our accessories to open your door with a code, fingerprint, or a Fob

Using the Nuki Web

We recommend that you only use Nuki with a cylinder with emergency function. This means you can always unlock your door with your mechanical key, even if there is a key inserted on the inside of your cylinder, which is the case when using the Nuki Smart Lock.

For Smart Lock Ultra and users who own a Universal Cylinder: You can always use your physical keys to unlock your door, even with the Smart Lock installed!

What happens if my Smart Lock runs out of battery?

You’ll always receive a warning when your lock’s battery level drops below 20%, giving you more than enough time to quickly recharge your device.Users who own a Smart Lock Ultra, or any other Smart Lock combined with a Nuki Universal Cylinder, can still use a physical key to open their door - even with the Smart mounted on the door!For all other users, if your current door cylinder has a so-called "emergency function", you can also simply use your keys to unlock your door.

The Smart Lock Pro (4th Generation) uses the proven shape, colors and form of Smart Lock 3.0 Pro but comes with new software and several other improvements. This enables Matter support and results in an improved battery life (on average + 30%). The Smart Lock Pro (4th Generation) additionally includes the new Power Pack with improved electronics for an even longer runtime. Furthermore, with a 4th generation Smart Lock you can utilize Remote Access via Thread. This extends the battery life of the device even further.
With Smart Lock Ultra, you get everything that Smart Lock Pro (4th generation) offers, plus a wide range of new developments. Smart Lock Ultra has a brand-new motor designed specifically for faster performance. Nuki Ultra is on average three times faster, and three times smaller than previous generation Smart Locks. It also has a stainless steel body, and is delivered with both black and white rings.
