Now without cylinder change
Nuki turns the latest smart lock technology fully retrofittable
Graz (Austria), March 11, 2025

Smart lock pioneer Nuki is kicking-off its 10th year anniversary with the simultaneous launch of two new products – and still there are more innovations for 2025 in the horizon. With a new product lineup, Europe’s market leader for retrofittable keyless access solutions addresses the customer expectations even more directly. This will help bring smart locks to a broader audience.
Just three months ago Nuki launched the Smart Lock Ultra; the fastest, smallest, and most powerful electronic door lock in the company’s history. Now the Austrian company is expanding its offering once again: the fifth-generation Smart Lock Pro brings the innovative technologies that were developed for Smart Lock Ultra, to a fully retrofittable solution without requiring a cylinder change. Back in November, the company had already announced an upcoming product launch which would be targeting users who prefer not to change their cylinders. “The interest for Smart Lock Ultra has exceeded all our expectations and given us the most successful product launch in Nuki’s history. We are all the more pleased at how quickly we managed to bring all the innovations that are used in Ultra, to a fully retrofittable solution.” says Martin Pansy, Co-founder and CEO at Nuki.
12 millimeters longer
What is different about Ultra and Pro in terms of looks? To be very precise, Smart Lock Pro is almost exactly 12 millimeters longer than the Ultra. This is necessary to make sure a wide variety of physical keys would fit inside the body of the smart lock. “All we had to add in lengths to make our latest technology work without changing the cylinder, was not even as long as the diameter of a one-cent Euro coin.” explains Jürgen Pansy, Co-founder and Chief Innovation Officer. The Smart Lock Pro is as fast and powerful as Ultra. This is thanks to the new brushless motor implemented in both locks.
Pro and Ultra are three times faster than previous Nuki generations at only a third of the size. There is a choice of three speed modes: “Insane” (unlocking or locking in less than one and a half seconds), “Standard” (unlocking or locking in two seconds), “Gentle” (noise reduction at lower speed – all with double locking action). There is also no difference in terms of appearance and charging technology: both new electronic door locks feature the iconic Nuki LED circle, base ring in black and white and a high-quality stainless steel look. Both smart locks are powered by a rechargeable lithium battery, which offers months of usage on a single charge, taking only two hours. The new magnetic charging port and the two-meter cable offer quick and easy on-door charging.
Less than 150 Euro
At the same time, Nuki is launching another smart lock to the market: Smart Lock Go – it offers all the tried-and-tested Nuki features of previous generations, combined with a new technology package. Unlike Pro and Ultra, it has a fourth-generation design without the stainless steel body. It communicates via integrated Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and Matter over Thread. “This makes it possible for customers to purchase a smart lock with Matter support for less than 150 EUR for the first time”, notes Martin Pansy. Nuki Go, like Pro and Ultra, features the new data migration flow for effortless transfer of device configuration, functions, and access authorizations from an older Nuki Smart Lock directly in the app. The full remote access options can be unlocked with a one-off purchase (49 EUR), and the alkaline batteries included in the scope of delivery can be replaced with the rechargeable Nuki Power Pack (49 EUR).
All three new smart locks
With Go, Pro, and Ultra, Nuki’s new lineup is complete. Smart Lock Go is aimed at price-sensitive customers who want to enter the smart world of electronic door locks for the first time. It is also intended for owners of vacation properties who want to automate key handovers for short term rentals. Smart Lock Pro was designed for customers who place great value on quality, design, and cutting-edge technology. Smart Lock Ultra is Nuki's smallest solution, and together with the bundled premium Universal Cylinder, is for all those who want everything that Pro offers, but who need to replace their cylinders for proper compatibility due to the specificities of their door. “We founded Nuki with the vision of making smart locks a matter-of-course. With the three new locks, we can now respond much more precisely to individual needs. This will help open the door to keyless access solutions for even more people and make smart locks more and more the norm” says Martin Pansy.
10-year success story
Speaking of opening doors: exactly a decade has passed since the foundation for the Nuki success story was laid in 2015 with the launch of a Kickstarter campaign. Today, for more than 600,000 users, the keyless access solution developed in Austria and produced in Europe, is a natural part of everyday life. In its anniversary year, the company is not stopping at two new products, but aims to add yet another launch. The goal is to meet the strong customer demand for “tap to unlock” as an additional opening option. Nuki believes in Aliro as a forward-looking, uniform standard for digital keys and attaches great importance to the availability of new functions for all customers. “We plan to launch an Aliro-enabled accessory with NFC support that is compatible with all Matter-enabled Nuki Smart Locks, as soon as the standard is available.” says Jürgen Pansy, giving an outlook on the further course of the anniversary year.
The Nuki Smart Locks Go (149 EUR), Pro (269 EUR) and Ultra including Universal Cylinder (349 EUR) are available on the Nuki Shop (all prices MSRP). Information about the upgrade program for existing customers can be found at nuki.io/upgrade-program/.
