As announced, the new Smart Lock brings numerous innovations. At first glance, not much difference can be seen on the outside. For the new Smart Lock 2.0, we decided to continue using our proven hardware concept and easy retrofitting design that takes just minutes to install. We know from customer surveys that this feature is particularly important for over 80% of the community. The new generation also includes popular features such as Auto Unlock, Lock ‘n’ Go and the ability to assign access authorizations. In keeping with the motto “Everything you love about Nuki, just more of it”, you will now be able to assign up to 200 individual access authorizations. This is particularly practical for use in shared work spaces or companies.

Our goal was to offer a Smart Lock that supports HomeKit and is available to users on all platforms. By integrating Apple HomeKit into our platform, we are further expanding our position as the best networked Smart Lock in Europe.
Apple HomeKit support
Thanks to its integration with Apple HomeKit, your electronic door lock can now be easily controlled with Siri, integrated into the Apple Home app and easily combined with your other smart helpers in practical settings. More details about the integration with HomeKit can be found here.Bluetooth 5
Your new Nuki Smart Lock 2.0 now talks to Bluetooth 5. This connection increases the range to 5x that of the Smart Lock 1.0 as well as improves connection stability with the Nuki Smart Lock 2.0. This also leads to a significant improvement in your Auto Unlock experience. At the moment, the full scope of this feature is not yet visible as there are no smartphones on the market that support the Bluetooth LE 5 Long Range Mode. Regardless of Bluetooth 5, the new chip should immediately improve your range by about 30%.Door sensor
A magnetic sensor has been integrated into the Nuki Smart Lock 2.0. This requires a magnetic counterpart, which must be attached to the door frame, and comes included with your new Smart Lock 2.0. Your Nuki app will now not only show you the status of the locking cylinder, but also the status of the door (open / closed). A particularly practical feature: you will receive a warning if you try to lock your front door while it is open. The new door sensor and the underlying algorithms are very complex, and we would therefore like to use the feedback of our community and the many different installation situations to improve upon this feature. For this purpose, this feature will be launched as a beta version, which will be noted in the Nuki app accordingly.ZigBee
The chip in our Smart Lock 2.0 also supports the Zigbee communication standard. We are already working with partners on possible integrations. At the beginning of next year, we will be able to tell you more about the partners as well as when they will integrate the Nuki Smart Lock into their product.Support of knob cylinders
The new Nuki Smart Lock 2.0 will also be available for use with knob cylinders in the future. This means that if you have a knob cylinder on the inside of your door, you will also be able to use the electronic door lock. Simply remove the knob on the inside of the door according to the manufacturer’s instructions. With the help of an adapter, you can then mount the Smart Lock on the door. Details can be found here. Just like the previous version, the new Smart Lock 2.0 costs €229. Your existing Nuki Bridge is naturally also compatible with the Smart Lock 2.0, so you don’t have to exchange your Smart Lock and Bridge to take advantage of the new Smart Lock generation.
Please note that your new Smart Lock 2.0 requires version 2.0 of the app to put it into operation correctly. The Android app is already available for download in the Google Play Store. The iOS app is currently being reviewed by Apple. As soon as the first Smart Locks 2.0 are delivered, the corresponding app version will also be available.
What’s next for Nuki?
The year 2018 brought many innovations: the improved Nuki Fob, the new Keypad, and now the new generation of the Smart Lock 2.0. But we also have concrete solutions in the works for 2019: the Nuki Opener! The retrofittable door opener for your intercom will be released in the first half of 2019. Your front door will be smart and you’ll have a completely keyless access from the street to your home!
Update July 31, 2019:
Last year, we announced our plans for 2019, which included the Nuki Smart Lock 2.0 as well as the planned integration of the Zigbee communication standard. After conducting an extensive analysis, we came to the conclusion that our approach to integrating Zigbee would not meet our high quality standards with regard to usability. For this reason, the Nuki Smart Lock 2.0 will not support Zigbee in 2019. Of course, we will keep you up to date on all developments concerning Zigbee and will continue our intensive work to ensure that our products are compatible with as many Smart Home devices and standards as possible.
