Fastest, smallest and most powerful Nuki Smart Lock

With Smart Lock Ultra Swiss, Nuki introduces the fifth generation of its electronic door lock, now available in the variant Swiss round cylinder. Europe’s market leader for keyless access solutions combines compact design, exceptional speed, highest security standards, and improved compatibility for Swiss doors.

As is well known, four years pass between two Olympic Games. That is exactly how much time smart lock pioneer Nuki has taken to fundamentally advance its electronic door lock for the fifth generation. Smart Lock Ultra is the fastest, smallest, and most powerful electronic door lock Nuki has ever brought to market. This Nuki Smart Lock is now also available with a Universal Cylinder in the Swiss round cylinder variant. Co-Founder and CEO Martin Pansy comments: “Interest in the Smart Lock Ultra has exceeded all our expectations so far and has resulted in the most successful product launch in Nuki’s history. We are delighted that with the round cylinder variant we can now make Swiss doors smarter as well.”

Brushless motor and iconic design

At the heart of this innovation is a completely newly developed motor. Once again, Nuki lives up to its reputation as a pioneer in smart home and smart lock technology – this time by using a brushless motor. “This technology, and its advantages in terms of efficiency and durability, has so far been primarily associated with electric vehicles. We are the first to use a brushless motor in one of our smart locks,” explains Jürgen Pansy, Co-Founder and Chief Innovation Officer.

From the outset, the goal was clear: no compromises on speed or design. Fast locking at the smallest possible size, combined with performance and energy efficiency. The result speaks for itself: Smart Lock Ultra Swiss is up to three times faster – at just one third of the size of previous generations. In addition, users can choose between three speed modes tailored to their personal needs: “Insane” (lock or unlock in less than 1.5 seconds)“, “Standard” (lock or unlock in 2 seconds) and “Gentle” (reduced noise at lower speed) – all with double-locking functionality.

No compromises were made in terms of recognizability either. “When it came to design, it was important to us that despite the significantly smaller housing, it is immediately recognizable as a Nuki Smart Lock,” emphasizes CEO Martin Pansy. This is achieved through the iconic LED ring. New additions include interchangeable base rings in black and white that complement the stainless steel look – meaning there is no longer a need to choose at the time of purchase; users can switch at any time.

Months of power and seamless data transfer

The choice between alkaline batteries and a rechargeable Power Pack is a thing of the past. Ultra is powered by an integrated lithium-polymer battery, which fully charges in around two hours and provides energy for several months. A newly developed magnetic charging connector, combined with a two-meter cable, enables safe and convenient charging directly at the door.

Upgrading from an earlier Nuki model to Ultra has never been easier. The data migration flow allows device configuration, functions, access permissions, and connections from an older Nuki Smart Lock to be seamlessly transferred within the app. According to Martin Pansy, this feature was introduced specifically for customers: “We have hundreds of thousands of users who will be upgrading to new devices over the coming years. We want that process to be as simple as possible.”

Ease of use also applies to installation. The cylinder and Smart Lock can be installed in around 15 minutes – without drilling and without any technical prior knowledge. Step-by-step instructions in the Nuki app support straightforward self-installation.

Proven features and enduring values

Despite the many innovations and improvements, CEO Martin Pansy emphasizes: “Everything that has always mattered to us as a company and in our products will continue to matter in the future.” As with all previous Nuki Smart Locks, Ultra was developed in Austria and is manufactured in Europe. Use of the product still does not require a mandatory user account. Nuki Ultra Swiss features integrated Wi-Fi and Matter-over-Thread, is compatible with all Nuki accessories, and enables convenient unlocking and locking via fingerprint or access code. The app allows users to manage the lock, assign up to 200 personalized access permissions, activate intelligent features such as Auto Unlock or Night Mode, and much more. Like the fourth generation, Smart Lock Ultra supports Matter, enabling seamless integration with a wide range of smart home systems including Google Home, Apple Home, Amazon Alexa, and Samsung SmartThings.

More than 600,000 Nuki Smart Locks are in use worldwide, serving over one million people. In 2025 alone, Nuki technology enabled around two billion locking and unlocking actions per year – via smartphone, smartwatch, fingerprint, access code, or fully automatically with Auto Unlock – and hence entirely without a physical key.

Nuki Smart Lock Ultra Swiss, including the premium universal cylinder in the Swiss round cylinder variant, is available immediately in the Nuki Shop at CHF 349. Home Set Ultra Swiss, consisting of Smart Lock Ultra Swiss and Keypad 2 with fingerprint sensor, is available at CHF 429. All prices are manufacturer’s suggested retail prices.
