Nuki Becomes Part of the Door

Keyless Access Pioneer Enters New-Build Segment with Smart Module

Graz (Austria), March 9, 2026

The European market leader for retrofit smart access technology is expanding its portfolio: In cooperation with Rehau Window Solutions, the Austrian company introduces the Nuki Smart Module. This innovation is invisibly integrated directly into the door and permanently powered. With this, Nuki establishes a fully integrated, maintenance-free, and future-proof system that, thanks to its broad compatibility, sets a new standard for keyless access in new-build projects

More than 600,000 Nuki Smart Locks are currently in use worldwide, serving over one million users. “More than a decade ago, we founded Nuki with the vision of making the physical key obsolete. The fact that more than two billion locking operations are carried out annually via our Smart Locks highlights the enormous trust placed in our products,” says Martin Pansy, Co-Founder and CEO of Nuki. Now, the European market leader for retrofit smart access solutions is opening the next door: With the Nuki Smart Module, the Austrian company brings the technology of its fifth Smart Lock generation into new-build doors. “This access solution is the result of a successful partnership between two absolute innovation leaders. Door and window professionals benefit from an additional attractive option in the new-build segment,” says Carsten Heuer, CEO Rehau Window Solutions. At Nuki, the team is pleased to have a globally active expert like Rehau at its side for this strategic step.

Smart Access Without Visible Hardware

But what distinguishes the Smart Module from a classic Smart Lock? The key difference lies in its full integration: The module requires no visible hardware, and the door design remains untouched. It is used with electromechanical door locks, transforming them into a smart access solution. Users benefit from proven Nuki features such as remote access, digital key management, and fully automatic door unlocking. A major advantage of the module is its permanent power supply, eliminating the need for battery replacements or manual charging. Thanks to support for smart home standard Matter, the module integrates seamlessly into connected homes and works smoothly with leading ecosystems such as Apple, Google, Amazon, and Samsung SmartThings. The system remains modular and can be expanded at any time with accessories such as a Keypad, enabling access via code, fingerprint, or Tap to Unlock using NFC.

With the Smart Module, the smart lock pioneer consistently transfers its principles from the retrofit segment to the new-build market. Manufactured in Europe, the Smart Module stands for high standards in data protection, IT security, and durability. Nuki CEO Martin Pansy sees benefits for both the industry and users: “The Smart Module is the logical continuation of our experience in the new-build segment. The result combines easy installation and cost efficiency with modern technology and broad compatibility across a wide range of electromechanical locks. We are offering a future-proof solution that establishes smart access systems as the new standard in new construction.”

Market Launch Later This Year

The official market launch of the Nuki Smart Module is planned for the fourth quarter of 2026. It will be available across Europe as an integrated complete solution through leading door manufacturers, as well as a standalone product via certified Nuki Pro Partners and in the Nuki Online Shop. An exclusive first look at the Smart Module will be possible from March 24 to March 27 at Fensterbau Frontale in Nuremberg, the world’s leading trade fair for window, door, and facade technology, at the exhibition booths of Rehau and Nuki.
