Austrian Keyless Access Provider Brings a Decade of Smart Lock Expertise to the Nordics

Graz (Austria), September 23, 2025

Today, Nuki officially enters the markets of Sweden, Norway, and Denmark. To meet local requirements, the Austrian company developed Smart Lock Ultra Nordics, designed specifically for the standard Scandinavian single-deadbolt cylinder. Named a 2025 CES Innovation Awards® Honoree, the electronic door lock allows users to control access via smartphone, smartwatch, fingerprint, or PIN, while maintaining privacy and security.

How do you get your apartment key to the cat sitter in time for a spontaneously planned city trip to London? How do you hand it over to your cleaner when he suddenly announces he’ll come on Monday instead of Friday? And how do you get your key if you’ve left it at the office again? The answer is simple: You just don’t have to any more. At least not in the keyless world of Nuki. Mounted within a few minutes on the inside of your existing door – without drilling, cylinder replacement or special tools – the retrofittable electronic lock opens and closes your door without a physical key. Permissions can be assigned and managed via the Nuki app. Plus, you can check at any time and in any place whether your door is locked or who has entered your home with your permission.

"Ten years ago, we founded Nuki with one clear mission: to make everyday life more convenient through keyless access solutions while maintaining the highest standards of home security,” says Martin Pansy, Co-Founder and CEO of Nuki. In 2015, few people believed that a smart access solution could replace the physical key. Ten years later, more than a million Nuki users from Miami to Madrid rely on exactly that solution. Thanks to the Austrian company's technology, doors are opened around one billion times each year using a smartphone, smartwatch, fingerprint, PIN code, or fully automatically via Auto Unlock – and without a physical key. "As Europe’s leading provider of smart, retrofit access solutions, we are now very pleased to bring a decade of smart lock expertise to customers in Scandinavia as well," adds Jürgen Pansy, Co-Founder and Chief Innovation Officer.

Unlocked in less than a second
Nuki Smart Lock Ultra Nordics is a retrofit smart lock engineered for standard Scandinavian single-deadbolt cylinders. It mounts directly onto an existing cylinder – a screwdriver is all it takes. The product is compatible with locks with a bolt and a separate latch. Developed in Austria and manufactured in Europe, this latest Nuki Smart Lock allows users to unlock their door conveniently and automatically in under one second (referring to a Scandinavian deadbolt lock with a rotation angle of 90°). This performance is enabled by brushless motor technology – offering the efficiency, durability and performance commonly found in electric vehicles. Thanks to the built-in Wi-Fi, the door can be controlled remotely without an additional hub. With the Nuki app it is possible to assign up to 200 personalized access permissions, activate smart features like Auto Unlock, Night Mode, and more.

Powered up to 12 months

A built-in battery powers the Smart Lock for up to 12 months on a single charge (dependent on usage).* The lock can be fully charged in only two hours, either mounted on the door or off-door. The magnetic charging port and cable have been designed specifically to make on-door charging simple and safe. Fitting into any home aesthetic, the compact design is only 57 Millimeters in diameter and comes with a stainless steel body and a black base ring.

Nuki played a pioneering role with the launch of the world's first electronic door lock with native Matter support in 2023. Smart Lock Ultra Nordics provides full support for Matter as well, and features expanded compatibility with other smart home platforms including Apple Home, Amazon Alexa, Google Home, Samsung SmartThings and more.

No user account needed
Privacy is a core value, unlike with other smart lock providers, personal and security-relevant data are not stored on Nuki servers to protect user privacy choices. Nuki Smart Locks can be used without the need to create an account, with all data stored locally. Designed with end-to-end encryption commonly used by online banks, the software meets rigorous security standards to
ensure users data protection. Nuki has been recognized as a secure smart home product by the independent AV-TEST institute. “At Nuki, we believe the safest data is the one you never have to share. That’s why from day one, Nuki Smart Locks have been designed to work without requiring a mandatory user account. Your data stays with you and it is never stored on Nuki servers by default,” adds Jürgen Pansy.

"Nuki Smart Locks set itself apart by providing Scandinavian customers with a smart access solution that can offer far more than pure functionality – it’s about the interplay of technology, privacy, security, convenience, and design. We are thrilled to introduce our products to the Nordic markets", concludes Martin Pansy.

Nuki's Nordic version is now available for purchase in the Nuki Online Shop. Smart Lock Ultra Nordics is priced at 3499 SEK / 3699 NOK / 2299 DKK, the Keypad 2 with fingerprint sensor at 1949 SEK / 2049 NOK / 1299 DKK. All prices are MSRP.
