The Nuki encryption concept explained simply.
Security is our top priority. That’s why we use a special encryption concept for communication between our devices. This prevents unauthorized access to your Smart Lock. Our security standard is comparable to online banking.
End-to-end encryption
Commands are encrypted by the sender, for example the Nuki App, already before transmission. Only the receiver, the Smart Lock, and the sender know the shared unique key. This key is generated during the pairing process. Also, for each command, an additional individual random number (challenge) is used for encryption.
Secure communication between all devices
Nuki App
A command previously encrypted by the app is transmitted via Bluetooth to the Smart Lock and then decrypted by the Smart Lock.
Nuki Accessories
Encrypted commands are sent to your Smart Lock via Bluetooth, also when you're using a keypad or the Nuki Fob.
Remote Access
Here, too, only the end devices know the key. Data cannot be read or stored on the Nuki server - it is only transmitted.
