Nuki Pioneers In-Car Smart Lock Control with New CarPlay Widget
Graz (Austria), October 1, 2025

Nuki, Europe's leading provider for smart, retrofit access solutions is immediately responding to Apple’s latest update: with iOS 26, users can now view the status of their Nuki device on their car’s display and perform locking actions – without taking their iPhone out of the pocket. The new Nuki CarPlay widget enables quick status checks and direct control from the vehicle. These functions are available starting today with the Nuki app version 2025.10.1.
Imagine you’re commuting to work and suddenly wonder whether you locked the door in your morning rush. Or picture arriving home after a long day, just wanting to get inside quickly. Instead of digging through your bag to find your smartphone, opening the Nuki app, and checking your Smart Lock status or opening the garage door, which is operated by the Nuki Opener – now all it takes is a quick glance at your car’s display or a simple tap. Starting today, iOS users don’t have to just imagine this – they can use Nuki technology directly from their car.
Convenience Implemented Fast
“As a pioneer in smart access solutions, we not only want to stay one step ahead with our own innovations but also recognize opportunities from other providers that make everyday life easier,” explains Martin Pansy, Co-Founder and CEO. When Apple announced that iOS 26 would support customizable widgets for CarPlay, Jürgen Pansy – Co-Founder and Chief Innovation Officer – knew immediately: “We want to leverage these new possibilities for our users as quickly as possible. I’m all the more pleased that thanks to our new CarPlay widget, Nuki can now be used directly in the car – less than a month after the release of the final iOS 26 version.”
Status Checks and Locking Actions
So, what exactly does the new CarPlay widget allow? For smartphones and smartwatches, interactive Nuki widgets have been available long before iOS 26 – these small but powerful customizable displays show key information in real time or enable direct actions without opening the app. The new Nuki widget for car displays supports two main functions: displaying status information and performing locking actions – not just for the Smart Lock, but also for the Nuki Opener. This solution allows users to open the main entrance, including garage doors, via the intercom system. With the CarPlay widget, you can quickly check from the car’s screen whether your door is locked or unlocked. If a door sensor is connected, the widget in addition shows whether the door is open or closed. Battery status is also displayed. Up to two locking actions can be added to the widget. A simple tap on the vehicle display triggers the action immediately – no need to open the app.
Faster, More Convenient, and Safer
By integrating direct control and status display into the car’s infotainment system, Nuki further improves the user experience and simplifies smart home access management overall. “Just thinking about those moments when I have to fumble for my phone at a red light to quickly check whether my door is closed – now, a quick glance at the display is enough, and I can keep my attention on the road. The CarPlay widget makes our keyless access solution even faster, more convenient, and safer to use in the car,” says Jürgen Pansy.
Compatible with More Than 800 Car Models
The new Nuki widget is available to all iOS users who own a Nuki Smart Lock or Nuki Opener. It is available with the latest Nuki app version 2025.10.1. Requirements: iOS 26 and a car that supports CarPlay – more than 800 car models are currently compatible. A list of compatible brands can be found at this link.
