Nuki uses state-of-the-art encryption mechanisms commonly used in online-banking. All communication with the Smart Lock is protected with end-to-end encryption. We also have our Smart Lock regularly inspected and certified by independent security institutes. The Nuki Smart Lock was once again certified by AV-TEST as a secure smart home product in 2025.

How do I install the Smart Lock?

All Nuki Smart Locks are installed on the inside of your door without needing any technical know-how, drilling, or special tools. Our Smart Locks can be installed and removed without leaving any residue or marks, and are therefore also ideal for rented apartments.While all Nuki Smart Locks can be installed in minutes on your own, the exact installation process would depend on the type of Smart Lock you own.We have step-by-step guides on our website and app for a quick and simple installation experience.You can find out whether your door is compatible with the Nuki Smart Lock here.

What happens if my Smart Lock runs out of battery?

You’ll always receive a warning when your lock’s battery level drops below 20%, giving you more than enough time to quickly recharge your device.Users who own a Smart Lock Ultra, or any other Smart Lock combined with a Nuki Universal Cylinder, can still use a physical key to open their door - even with the Smart mounted on the door!For all other users, if your current door cylinder has a so-called "emergency function", you can also simply use your keys to unlock your door.

What if I don't have a smartphone?

Even if you don't have your phone with you, you can still open your door in many ways:
Asking someone with an access permission to open it for your remotely

Using a smartwach

Using one of our accessories to open your door with a code, fingerprint, or a Fob

Using the Nuki Web

We recommend that you only use Nuki with a cylinder with emergency function. This means you can always unlock your door with your mechanical key, even if there is a key inserted on the inside of your cylinder, which is the case when using the Nuki Smart Lock.

For Smart Lock Ultra and users who own a Universal Cylinder: You can always use your physical keys to unlock your door, even with the Smart Lock installed!

How can I control my Smart Lock Go remotely?

To connect your Smart Lock Go with the internet, you need to activate Remote Access with a one time purchase. You can purchase Remote Access directly in your Nuki app or via the Nuki Shop. You can do this at any time - whenever needed.After purchasing Remote Access you can connect your Smart Lock Go directly to your home Wi-Fi. Alternatively you can also connect it to your network over your Matter-integration. In this case, a suitable hub is required.

How is the Smart Lock Go powered and how can I charge it?

Your Smart Lock Go is delivered with 4 AA-batteries. If they are depleted you can simply exchange them. For a more sustainable solution you can expand your set-up with a Nuki Power Pack. You can charge it either directly in the Smart Lock or while disassembled.

Yes you can use your Smart Lock Go also without purchasing Remote Access. In that case all features and functions of you Smart Lock are only available while you are in Bluetooth range of the device. Thanks to it's Matter-compatibility the Smart Lock Go can be integrated into your smart home without purchasing Remote Access.
