iOS 15 Update: Effects on the Nuki app and Auto Unlock

Nuki News 03.11.2021 | Admin

Update 20.01.2022: With the Nuki app version 3.1.0 we have introduced the Attention mode in the Auto Unlock expert settings. The Attention mode is activated by default for iOS 15 users. It ensures that the Nuki app is active more often and receives regular location updates.
Apple has now also released iOS 15.3. With iOS 15.3, ‘geofence actions’ work reliably again.

For us, the Nuki community comes first. That’s why we take the feedback of our users seriously. After updating to iOS 15, we have received feedback from some users that the Auto Unlock function has not been working as reliably as it used to. Unfortunately, not only Nuki is affected. Since the update to iOS 15, other manufacturers have also experienced increased problems with so-called ‘geofence actions’.

Auto Unlock works through the interaction between the operating system of your iPhone and the Nuki app. The operating system detects the position of your smartphone. When you approach your home, the Nuki app gets activated. It searches for your Nuki Smart Lock via Bluetooth and unlocks your door as soon as you arrive at home. It is this interaction between iOS 15 and the Nuki app that does not work smoothly for all users at the moment. The reason is that the Nuki app currently does not get activated at all or too late by the iOS 15 operating system.

Are you affected as well? Here are some possible troubleshooting steps:

1. Update your iPhone and your Nuki app
Make sure you have the latest iOS version and the latest Nuki app installed on your iPhone.

2. Reset Auto Unlock
a. Disable all Smart Actions
b. Restart your iPhone
c. Re-enable Auto Unlock

3. Test Auto Unlock for a few days
How Auto Unlock works in detail and how you can improve the quality can be read here. Read this article for more information on how to optimise Auto Unlock.

4. If there is no improvement, create an Auto Unlock report
a. Open the main menu in the Nuki app and select “Help” > “Contact Nuki Support”.
b. Select the affected device and complete your report stating the exact times (date, time) when Auto Unlock did not work correctly.

Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee that these steps will fix the current Auto Unlock limitations for all users. Our teams are working with Apple to resolve the issues.

We will keep you informed about the latest developments via the Nuki blog and our social media channels.
