That’s how it’s done: connecting Nuki to Google Assistant

The Google Assistant is the most popular language assistant in Europe alongside Amazon’s Alexa. You can also use the virtual assistant from Google to operate your Nuki Smart Lock. In this article, we will show you how the setup works and the advantages of networking Nuki and Google Assistant.

The advantages of Google Assistant

The Google Assistant is a versatile language assistant that can be used for many different things. It can check the weather, play music or control smart devices – like your Nuki Smart Lock – with your voice, for example.

The prerequisite for its use is a corresponding Smart Speaker, a Smart Display, a smartphone or tablet on which the Google Assistant is integrated or installed. Google is selling its own selection of Smart Speakers with Google Home products. But external manufacturers also have a lot to offer here. And after all, every smartphone or tablet with Android as the operating system has the Google Assistant on board. It can also be installed on iOS devices.

How to connect your Nuki Smart Lock with Google Assistant

To connect your Nuki Smart Lock with the Google voice assistant, you can use the Google Home App. Just follow the steps below:

  • Go to “Settings” and then to “Compatible with Google devices”.
  • Select Nuki from the long list of compatible devices.
  • Log in with your Nuki access data and allow access. You also have to select and enter a security PIN. Now Nuki is connected to Google.
  • You will then be shown a list of available Nuki devices. Choose the ones you want to integrate into Google Home.
  • Follow the instructions on the display and specify a room for the devices to be added.

Now your Nuki is connected to Google Assistant. You can alternatively use the Google Assistant App. Here the process is quite similar.

Important note: For the interaction between the Google Assistant and Nuki to work, two conditions must be met: you must have a Nuki Web account and the Nuki Bridge in use.

Connection possibilities for Nuki via Google Assistant

Once you have connected Nuki to Google Assistant, you can control your Smart Lock by voice command. With commands such as “Ok Google, lock the front door” or “Ok Google, unlock the front door” your door lock does what you say.

But voice assistants like Alexa and also Google Assistant can do more than just accept simple voice commands. Among other things, you can use the Google Home App to program routines according to your own ideas. There are numerous possibilities to individually automate certain processes.

For example, you can set up the “Good-Night-Automation”, where the lights all over the house are turned off as your Nuki locks the front door. The next morning the opposite happens by saying “Hey Google, good morning” and your front door unlocks, the shutters go up and much more. You can integrate the smart devices and services of many manufacturers into these automations. Google Home is compatible with countless brands, including Philips Hue, Sonos, Bosch Smart Home, Fibaro, etc.

Is it safe to use the Nuki Smart Lock via Google Assistant?

Theoretically, a stranger outside could command your Smart Speaker to unlock your front door through an open window and gain unauthorized access. To prevent this from happening, there is a security PIN which you assign when you set up the system. You have to give the PIN to the Google Assistant with every lock command to unlock the front door.

This way, the use of Nuki in combination with the Google Assistant is safe. But of course, you should be careful (as with any password) that your password is not distributed.

Control your Nuki Smart Lock via Google Assistant and benefit from these advantages in everyday life
