We present the Nuki Keypad 2.0 – Now you can open your door with your fingerprint!

Nuki News 08.11.2022 | Admin

Today we present the second generation of our popular Keypad. In response to many costumer requests, we have equipped the Nuki Keypad 2.0 with an additional fingerprint sensor. This makes our new Keypad the ideal solution for anyone who wants to unlock the door by fingerprint or numerical code.

A new approach to smart access: Unlocking your door has never been so quick and convenient.

Martin and Jürgen Pansy set themselves the goal of creating new ways for keyless access – this gave rise to the idea of the Smart Lock. To date, more than 350,000 customers already benefit from smart access with Nuki. But in Europe there are still so many doors that we want to make keyless. This encourages us to keep working on new access solutions.

“With the Nuki Keypad 2.0 we are one step closer to our vision. From now on, all it takes is a finger to unlock the door. No smartphone is needed and all those who are not using Nuki’s Auto Unlock feature have never unlocked the door faster.”
Martin Pansy, Founder and CEO of Nuki

Over the years, the Keypad has become a faithful everyday companion for many of our customers. The Nuki Keypad 2.0 has all features of its popular predecessor and impresses with a crucial advantage: speed. For this purpose, we rely on the fast and proven technology of fingerprint recognition. Within a few seconds, the fingerprint sensor checks and recognises your fingerprint and passes on the command to unlock to the Smart Lock.

The most important facts about the Nuki Keypad 2.0

  • Simple installation: All you have to do is simply mount the Nuki Keypad 2.0 on the outside of your front door – no screwing, drilling or wiring necessary.
  • Individualised access: With your Nuki app you can create up to 20 fingerprints and 200 entry codes.
  • Elegant design: Like the entire product family, the Keypad 2.0 boasts a stylish, clean design.
  • Fast response time: With fingerprint technology, the door is open within seconds.
  • Security: The fingerprint sensor offers a high level of security. Authorisations are still stored on your end devices such as the Smart Lock or Opener on the inside of the door.
  • Sustainability: Thanks to the energy efficiency of the new controller, the new Keypad has an average battery life of at least 12 months. 4 standard AAA batteries are used.

A look behind the scenes:
Jürgen Pansy, Chief Innovation Officer at Nuki

“We all love the Nuki Keypad: Especially the stylish, clean design and easy use. Over the years, it has become a reliable companion for many of us. When we developed the Keypad 2.0, we wanted to keep all these advantages, but add one: speed.

We have achieved this by using the fastest and most efficient of all available technologies. It is tried and tested and is used millions of times a day: the fingerprint recognition. But not only have we added a fingerprint sensor, we’ve also added a new microcontroller – the most powerful and advanced out of all our battery-powered products. This allows us to recognise and verify a fingerprint in less than a second, while maintaining the same level of security as with the 6-digit pin code.

The Keypad 2.0 is self-learning. Each time it successfully recognises a finger, it refines the stored information. It learns and grows with its users.”

Apple HomeKey and NFC

Nuki has always been open for integrations with the major software platforms out there. No doubt, Apple HomeKit brought a huge push to the industry and also to the Nuki Smart Lock. So we are well aware of these benefits and have targeted NFC support in the Keypad 2.0. However it turned out that Apple has requirements for HomeKey that the Nuki Smart Lock can’t meet and the same limitation will also be true for most other retrofit Smart Locks in Europe. In parallel we were overwhelmed by the speed of the fingerprint in the Keypad 2.0 and found out that identification through fingerprint is more convenient and faster than bringing a phone, watch or badge very close to the Keypad. Therefore we dropped NFC support for the time being.

Simple access for all

The Keypad 2.0 is the ideal accessory for the Nuki Smart Lock 2.0, 3.0 and 3.0 Pro. Thanks to the fingerprint sensor, this access solution is suitable for all users:

  • for those who cannot or do not want to use a numerical code, such as children or senior citizens.
  • for those who do not have their own smartphone or would like to leave it at home for once – for example when exercising or going for a walk.

By the way: Keypad owners can easily upgrade to the new generation – existing entry codes are automatically transferred from Keypad 1.0 to 2.0.
